DC Canes To Take Part In Wreaths Across America

DC Canes will again be taking part in Wreaths Across America at Arlington Cemetery where we will be honoring our heroes and laying wreaths on the headstones at the cemetery. This year’s theme is “Come with a Mission – Leave with a Memory.”

We will be meeting at 8:45am on Memorial Drive in front of the Visitor Center (the same place as last year). When you get off the ANC Metro, start walking on Memorial Drive. You will see the Women in Military Service for America Memorial at the end of the road, but before you get there you’ll see the Visitor Center on the left.

At 9:00am we’ll start walking to the McClellan Arch (located on McClellan Drive between Sections 33 and 12) for the Opening Ceremony, which will include some introductory remarks and a short briefing to provide basic information to volunteers. After the ceremony, we will move to our designated area to begin laying wreaths.

FYI: at 11:00am there will be a wreath laying at President Kennedy’s grave, then a wreath laying at 11:30am at the USS Maine Mast Memorial, and then a final ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldiers at noon.

Due to limited parking available near the Cemetery and the high number of volunteers expected, you are highly encouraged to take Metro. ANC is accessible via the Blue Line (Arlington Cemetery stop), and pedestrian-accessible gates are a short walk from Rosslyn (Orange Line) and both Pentagon and Pentagon City (Yellow and Blue Lines).
