DC Canes February 2014 Newsletter

DC Canes,

Welcome to February! While the groundhog told us on Sunday that there would be 6 more weeks of this harsh winter, we have some big news that will definitely keep you warm until spring arrives!  Check out what’s upcoming:

2014 DC Canes Annual Meeting & Banquet – May 4th, 1:00-3:30pm

Join us for the 2014 DC Canes Annual Meeting & Banquet at Carmine’s Restaurant (425 7th Street NW, Washington, DC) on Sunday May 4, 2014 from 1:00 pm to 3:30 pm.  Carmine’s is located 2 blocks north of the Archives Metro Station and 2 blocks south of the Gallery Place-Chinatown Metro station.  This is a great opportunity to network with fellow alums in the DC area and to further connect with your DC Canes board and learn how to become more involved in DC Canes.  The event begins at 1:00pm with a cocktail/networking portion, with lunch service beginning at 1:30.  The Annual Meeting portion begins at 2:30pm.

The cost to attend this event will be $40 for paid DC Canes members and $50 for nonmembers.  Space is limited to 60 people and we expect to fill up quickly, so don’t delay!  Head to our event page to register.  All proceeds for this event will support the Marty Pearl Memorial Book Scholarship that provides financial assistance to matriculating Miami students from the DC area.

No Better Time To Pay Dues!

With springtime approaching, there’s no better time to pay dues than right now!  Dues are $25 for individuals or $40 for couples.  In addition to our deal with AllCanes that will save you 10% on any online or in-store purchase, there are other member benefits on certain events that will allow you to save money.  To pay your dues or to make a donation to DC Canes, please follow the instructions on our website.

Scholarship Donations Accepted

We are always accepting donations for the Marty Pearl Memorial Book Scholarship.  The Scholarship fund provides financial assistance to matriculating Miami students from the DC area.   We are on pace to award the largest amount of scholarship money in our history, but to get to our goal, we need your help!  If you feel inclined to donate to our Scholarship, please follow the link on our website for donations.  Please make a note that the donation is earmarked for the Marty Pearl Memorial Book Scholarship.  We thank you all for your continued support!

If you have any ideas about events we can do this spring, let us know by contacting the relevant board member.  We are planning some events for the springtime, and we will let you know as those events are finalized.  Don’t forget to follow us via our website, Facebook and Twitter.  And, as always, email us at info@dccanes.com with any questions.
