Accepting All Comers – for the DC Canes Board!

Summer is in the air and we’re feeling nostalgic about Miami nights. But while we remember those memories, we are also looking ahead to next year to recruit new talent for the DC Canes Board. Do you enjoy connecting with the UM community? Do you want to help plan alumni events in DC? If the answer is yes consider joining the 2018-2019 DC Canes Board.

Board members are required to attend at least 50% of the monthly board meetings, assist with running at least two game watches, help plan and execute at least one D.C. Canes event during the course of the year, and to be a paid D.C. Canes member.

DC CANES BOARD POSITION DESCRIPTIONS

President:  Responsibilities include working with the club’s officers to develop a calendar of events and representing DC Canes at UM Alumni Association meetings and events. He/she serves as the primary liaison with the UM Alumni Association.

Vice-President:  Responsibilities include serving as President-Elect for DC Canes and performing the duties of President upon the President’s request or in his/her absence.

Secretary:  Responsibilities include keeping a complete and current membership list as well as preparing minutes from all DC Canes meetings for DC Canes members. Secretary is also responsible for updating the website and assisting in social media presence.

Treasurer:  Responsibilities include, developing and maintaining, with the help of the officers, the DC Canes budget for the year. He/she collects all membership dues and other contributions and assists the secretary with maintaining the membership list.

Immediate Past President:  Provides additional support to the current President and the rest of the DC Canes board.

Professional & Social Networking Chair (PRIDE):  Responsibilities include organizing professional and social networking events.

Recruiting Students & Scholarship Fundraising (PRIDE):  Responsibilities include organizing programs, such as summer send-offs for students in the area starting at UM in the fall.  He/she also serves as the DC Canes liaison with Miami Circle leaders and helps them staff upcoming college fairs and information sessions in the DC area.

Ibis, Sports Related Programming (PRIDE):  Responsibilities include organizing sports related programming, such as game watch events, trips to UM games played locally, and area recreational sports

Devotion to Community (PRIDE):  Responsibilities include organizing community service events in the DC area for fellow UM alumni.

Education of Alumni (PRIDE):  Responsibilities include organizing programs and events that promote continuous education and learning amongst UM alumni.

Young Alumni:  Responsibilities include organizing programs that cater to alumni who have graduated from UM in the past 10 years.

CAN/AFLA-DC Representative:  Responsibilities include representing DC Canes at all meetings and events for the Capital Alumni Network and All Florida Alumni of DC.

At Large (2-4):  Responsibilities include assisting fellow board members at all DC Canes meetings and events.
